Ocean View

A Considered Response to an Ocean Frontage

Elevated Living

The clients came to us with a privileged piece of land and vast ocean views, and a simple question: how to make the most of it. We worked through a number of layouts before settling on this one, testing each against a single measure — optimising every square metre of the plan for the view, rather than treating it as a backdrop to a conventional layout.

The main residence is lifted to capture the ocean frontage in full — living, kitchen and dining sit together as a single elevated volume, oriented so the water is present in every part of the connected space rather than framed from one corner of it. The master bedroom is positioned to face the key view directly, carrying the same outlook through to the more private spaces of the home.

A Second, Elevated Level

Below the main residence, the lower floor holds a secondary accommodation, given its own elevation to preserve a share of the same view rather than being treated as a lesser, view-less level beneath the house above it. The arrangement lets both levels read as considered parts of the one home, rather than a primary dwelling with an afterthought underneath.

Master Retreat

The master suite extends the outlook further still: the ensuite bath is positioned behind the bed head, so the same ocean view carries through from sleeping to bathing without a hard division between the two. Rather than treating the bathroom as a separate, enclosed room, the arrangement lets the water outlook remain part of the space at every point within it.
