Concept for an elevated living kitchen and dining space, leading to external terrace. The traditional terrace house roof joins at the ridge to the extended portion. The underside of the ridge folds into a ceiling that rises to mark the top of the stairs and living areas.

Originally a 3 bed terrace that lacked natural light, ventilation and space. The proposal adds area sufficient for the family in a way that mitigates bulk and shadow impact on neighbours. It does this by the split level arrangement whereby the lower floor is level to the laneway, and the stairs split to reduce circulation area, and lower the upper floor relative to a normal 2 storey dwelling. The result is a 4 bed + study + external terrace area that increases solar access, improves the indoor to outdoor transition, and provides roof for a family to grown into.
